Teaching as Leadership: Creating Classroom Environments for Civic Engagement

Do you consider your teaching a Democratic Act? Are you motivated to teach by social Justice? Can teachers be Leaders? How can the choices we make in our classrooms demonstrate leadership? Based on Stephen Presskill’s outstanding work on making classrooms democratic spaces and the growing scholarship on Social Justice Education, this workshop seeks to provide participants with a means for identifying their own teaching goals, biases, and objectives, and introduces them to ideas connecting education and leadership. Presenter: Kevin Johnston, Director, Teaching Assistant Programs.
