More and more, instructors are engaging in active learning strategies that include group projects and peer learning. In some disciplines and classes, these types of learning activities are absolutely essential. But instructors often struggle with how to best form these teams, how to help student teams be effective, and how to assess student teamwork. Further, many students resist working in teams and report learning less when in a team than when working individually. In this workshop, Professor Cheruvelil will share best practices for instructors using student teams in their classes with the goals of improved student satisfaction and learning, as well reduced instructor guesswork and stress regarding student teams.
