Starting Off on the Right Foot: Organizing the First Day of Class

You never get a chance to make a second first impression, so what impression do you want your students to have from your first day of class? How can you use this opportunity to excite your students about the class and establish expectations? In this session, we will discuss your class and your goals for the class, and how you can make the most of this day. The session will provide you with some general guidelines and also give you the chance to tailor your first day to maximize the value for you and your students. You should bring your syllabus and other ideas or materials for your class. This is part of the Essential Teaching Techniques for STEM Faculty lunch workshop series. Faculty and graduate students in STEM areas are welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided.
