We will read the attached essay by Maskiewicz and Lineback and the responding letter from Crowther and Price for different perspectives on how we, as DBER researchers and science educators, should view student conceptions and misconceptions. Joe Krajcik and Andy Anderson, both leading researchers in the learning sciences, will join us as we examine the authors' claims about misconceptions in the context of constructivism, and discuss how to advance our thinking about student learning in our research and disciplinary fields.
